THE OFFICIAL VERDICT ON THE TEAMS.
C/WOODBOYS. 15th (Football 15th)
A new team name for this side trying to avenge last place in their last event as Poccer 2.
Things started extremely brightly with their first ever point at football at the hands of Poccer 4 runners
up in Bouncebackability. That unfortunately was the highlight.
Carl Farquharson was their top performer in the poker as they did manage to beat their previous best score.
THREE STACKS HIGH SOCIETY 14TH (Football 10th)
Three Stacks were fourth in the football in Poccer 4, but failed to qualify for the final eight this time.
Losing 2-0 to newcomers Gouldies Goats was the crucial tie, especially with Robbos Rovers in their group. Two wins in the
After Eights competition ensure Three Stacks would have a chance. Captain Andrew Ram was the best performer within the
side scoring 59 points for the cause.
THE TERRI 13TH (Football 13th)
We welcome back The Terri from Poccer 1 and 2. The Terri were our football winners in Poccer 1 and 3rd in
the football at Poccer 2 and were expected to be a big threat. It looked like the Group was going to be Group of Death,
was Poccer 4 football winners Boro Boys and most of the Angels side who were Poccer 3 football winners in 2Good2U.
So it proved for the Terri who lost both their group games. After three losses, the recovered with 2 wins,
but 13th was never going to be enough. Richie Vincent was their star man in the Poker.
ANGELS OF HELSBY 12TH (Football 12th)
The winner of Poccer 3 and 4 in 12th - surely a misprint! Well with 2 sides this time, it is fair
to say the side were diluted a little.
3 losses in the group stage soon put paid to any dreams of success. Only a win on penalties in the quarters
of the last eight, gave their results any credibility. Once again it was down to the captain Dave Duncan to lead way as top
points scorer.
BANANA DWARVES 11TH (Football 14th)
Once again a dissapointing football performance from our football runners-up from Poccer 2. 5 Games losses,
how they missed goalscorer Neil Craig.
The poker proved better, with newcomer Andy Rushton putting in a great effort finishing in 13th place.
GOULDIES GOATS 10TH (Football 7th)
Newcomers Gouldies Goats made a steady start to Poccer life.
Making it to the Super Eights was a great opening. 2 Narrow defeats to football winners Bouncebackability
and Poccer 4 football winners, means Gouldies Goats were unfortunate to finish 7th.
The poker went less well, but there is more to come from this side.
BULLENS BULLETS 9TH (Football 11th)
A dissapointing first game of football for the bullets proved costly losing to Sunpoker. After previously
beating them 6-1,6-0 and 5-1 a 3-2 reverse was not on the cards. This put them in the bottom 8 and despite
a good win over arch rivals the Bananas, 11th was all they could manage.
Ricky Hart was once again their top poker performer, with Craig Dockerill registering his best ever finish.
THE POT 8TH (Football 9th)
8th again for The Pot. This time the football let them down, can they ever be consistent. A very tough
group and a very close 2-1 against eventual runners up in the football Inthebelly, narrowly put them in the bottom half, where
they beat everyone they faced.
Glen Farra (17th) and Martin James (24th) performed well. With more backup a win is no beyond the realms
of possibility.
2 GOOD 2 U 7TH (Football 6th)
This side were most of the Angels of Helsby team, but could not live up to early Poccer events.
Winning their group, by beating the Boro Boys, it looked like another win was on the cards. However
a 3-1 quarter final defeat to Inthebelly was not expected.
3 Decent finishes in the poker ensured 7th place, but I think there will be a little dissapointment in not
going further.
NORFOLK NC 5TH= (Football 3rd)
A fantastic debut from this side. Comfortably winning a tough group. They then shocked everyone by
beating the Boro boys on penalties, but a penalty defeat in the semi finals by Bouncebackability meant 3rd place.
Despite their big starting stack, they lost 3 players in the first 20 out. A great performance by
Adrian Etheridge (3rd place) ensured they went close, but just lost a little support when it mattered. This team have
a Poccer title in them.
BORO BOYS 5TH= (Football 5th)
Our football winners from last time, were in high spirits. However a 3-2 defeat in their first game was
a big shock. As a result they got drawn against a very good Norfolk NC in the quarters where they lost on pens.
Kenny Fergie put in another excellent peformance and for a while they had four left, with just 30 players
left, it looked hopeful, but 3 out before the last 20 was reached, meant they were not going to improve on their best runners
up effort.
ROBBOS ROVERS 4TH (Football 4th)
Equalling their personal beft of 4th place, Robbos Rovers put their dissapointing effort of last time behind
them. 3 Wins in the group stage set them up nicely. Paul Robinson and his magic orange boots looked likely to guide
them to success, until a semi final penalty defeat.
With 3 players left from the last 25, a victory was still possible, but it was not to be. Matthew
Lakins took the bounty prize, but that was as good as it got.
This is another side who have the potential to win a Poccer event.
BOUNCEBACKABILITY 3RD (Football 1st)
2 Poccers and now a 3rd place to add to their second. After a dissapointing draw in their first game, they
sorted themselves out and ran out worthy winners in the football. The almost blew it though, being 3-0 down in the final,
before coming back to win 4-3.
3 players went very deep including captain James Williams again. Ash Piotroski, Jon Titcombe ably
supported James, but 3 in the last 15 was not quite good enough.
TEAM SUNPOKER 2ND (Football 8th)
A fantastic performance from Jimmy Cairns side, moving them up from 8th to 2nd as a result of the Poker.
A shock was on the cards early when Sunpoker got through their group for the first time, beating their nemesis Bullens Bullets.
Although they lost all 3 super eight games, this was a good starting stack for them.
Despite losing Jimmy 3rd out, 3 of the team made the final 7. Chris Webb, Rachael Orchard and Aaron
Taylor were 7th,6th and 5th respectively. A place is the grand final is now theirs.
INTHEBELLY 1ST (Football 2nd)
IntheBelly were finally back after their fine 3rd in poccer 2. A great poker side, who won the football
last time. Incredibly although not their main strength, they made the final again. It looked like history was repeating
themselves when the moved 3-0 up in the final. But second place and I know they would have settled for that at the beginning.
At one point it looked like they were going to turn this into a procession. They had 5 players still
in with 14 left and 4 left on the final table. It did get very close with Sunpoker and looked to be going either way,
however a great team effort saw a 1-2-4 for Dave Colclough, Paul Turnstill and Rory Dawson. A really sporting side
who we look forward to welcoming back for our grand final.
Well played to all our teams and thanks to the brilliant spirit it was played in.
Poccer 6 - 2ND AUGUST - We hope to see you all again!
