THE OFFCIAL VERDICT ON THE TEAMS
INTHE BELLY 8TH (Football 6th)
Poccer Five Winners IntheBelly were strong favourites for the Midland Masters. They are expert
poker players, with some good Football ability. To see them in last place is still a shock to me now. The football
group was a tough one, 2 draws and one narrow defeat shows it could not have been much closer.
They lost 3 players earlier in the Poker, but captain Paul Turnstill and Tom Phipps were quickly building
their chips.
When Paul went out in 25th place, the team's hopes faded. Tom Phipps still managed to go on a one man crusade
and shared the headhunter prize with 7 scalps, but it was to no avail.
We have not seen the last of these Poccer Champions.
REAL SOSOBAD 6TH= (Football 1st)
Real Sosobad were the outsiders of all teams returning to Poccer.
However they certainly caused some surprises along the way, their football team had improved by a long way.
They stuttered to start with with 1pt from their first 2 games and just about got out of their group.
But a 6-1 demolition of Grand Final Soccer winners Robbos Rovers, showed just how they had come.
In the poker, they started well with Declan Harkin taking a scalp in only the 2nd hand.
Shaun and Brendan Harkin went deep, but ran out of support, mark my words, this team is on the up.
ROBBOS ROVERS 6TH= (Football 3rd)
Robbos Football side, won their group at a canter, but were shellshocked by their semifinal defeat at the
hands of Real SoSobad.
A repeat of their 4th in the Grand final when early as they lost 4 players in the poker in the first 13.
However Adam Orr picked up some good points and regular star player Matt Lakins went on to win the poker.
They have never finished above 4th (3 times), but by having a player win the poker, surely they have a title
in them.
TEAM BS 5th (Football 8th)
Our first new team, who had experienced Poccer on the beach previously, certainly brightened up the day
(not only with their orange kit).
Football is not their forte, although they still managed 13 goals in their games. Poker most definitely
is though, Mark Brewers and Stephen Laker peformed admirably, but Rob Hoggers 4th place finish after starting with the lowest
stack was nothing short of exceptional.
This team was a great addition to Poccer and we hope to have them back again soon.
AYLESBURY GREEN MACHINE 4th (Football 7th)
Our joint Poccer 1 winners were back and in determined mood. They narrowly missed out on qualifying
from their group and this meant a low starting stack in the poker.
It all look so bad, as they lost 2 of the first 3 out and with a third player joining them quickly, it looked
like a miserable day in store.
However Brian and Stuart Wilson and Phil Iannone had other ideas and all made the last 16. With a bit more
of a stack this team could well be back on the way up.
GET SOME NUTS 3rd (Football 5th)
A very impressive debut from this local side. The football started well with a win, but they faded
as their fitness failed them and had to make do with 5th place.
Their poker skills were unknown, but for no longer. With just 28 players left they were all still in.
Gaz Oliver drove them on with plenty of scalps and a 5th place finish, a little more support could well
have seen them starting their poccer career with a win.
We hope to see these boys back again soon, another great addition to the Poccer family.
BANANA BULLETS 2nd (Football 2nd)
A slight name change for our 2nd favourites and the perpetual bridesmaids yet again finished 2nd.
They had their best performance in the football which set them up with a great chance in the poker.
With Martin James finishing 2nd and Scott Wormald 3rd, we have to ask how they didn't win, but none of their
other 4 could do better than 23rd, meaning they missed out by just 3 points.
Surely the best team to never win a Poccer title, they have never been closer to win (previous 2nds by 7pts
and 18pts), but can they ever step to take the title.
TEAM SEADOGGS 1st (Football 4th)
Team Seadoggs dumped their sponsors in the week before the tournament and what a result. Their football
has improved so much since their days as the whipping boys.
Qualifying from their group set them up nicely.
Chris Webb started in incredible fashion, knocking out 3 of the first 5 players out, until he was knocked
out by his own teammate Michael Quinian when holding a set of kings.
There were in pole position with 4 players left in the last 15, but when Jimmy Cairns set of kings lost
and Danny Crossans AK lost to AQ, it was getting a bit too close.
Tom Cairns and Michael Quinan scrapped on to the final table and held on long enough to secure a famous
victory.
Congratulations to our Midland Masters winners TEAM SEADOGGS.
See you all again soon.
